Jun. 10th, 2002 08:42 pmWhee. Another one of those "What the hell, I've got time before Death Guild" posts.
Today was the first real day at work. Didn't get my first choice for the project, but that's ok, because it would have required a pretty unbearable commute for the first month or so, and the project I did get put on is fairly well along in development, so it's quite possible that I'll finish this one up and be able to hop over to my favored project once it starts ramping up at EA proper. I've got a friend from training who got on it, and he's apparently been telling the lead that I am a bright monkey, and would like to be on that project.
Hrm. I hate being that nebulous about things, but I'm one of those people who actually takes NDA's seriously. It's a wonder I went through an anarchist phase at all. I'm really not all that wired for it.
Anyway, game I am on is pretty fun. I think it was my second or third choice. All of the new people are kind of in a weird position for two main reasons. First, they ran out of space in the team cube proper, so we're kind of off by ourselves in the hall. Second, we're running an earlier build than everyone else, mainly because we're doing a slightly different version of the game, so any bugs we notice will almost certainly already be in the database and fixed once our build catches up with the game proper. Also, we don't even have computers yet, so we're not entering bugs at all. Long story short, I got paid to play video games today. Not test, just play. Whee!
One of the perks to actually being employed at EA is access to the library. Considering all of my game machines are sequestered at various storage units/friends houses around the greater bay area, I didn't go checking out any games, but I did avail myself to their store of text books. I'm borrowing a Digital Signal Processing book (Mmmmm, Fast Fourier Transforms) and a Games Programming Gems book (which is basically a collection of interesting papers applicable to games. A* path-finding, quaternions, neural nets. Fun stuff like that). I wonder how long it will take me to consume their library. Probably not all that long. Hrm.
Ok, I have burritoness to eat, and then off to da city to shake my booty. Fun fun.
