May. 7th, 2002 01:47 amWomp. My journal seems to be going into one of those completely uninteresting reciting information, rather than actually musing about anything phases. Oh, well, these things seem to be slightly periodic, so I might as well just get on with it and get it over with rather than beating myself up because my brain's not doing anything interesting. Maybe I'll go poke it with a q-tip. That'll teach it!
Anyway, spent Saturday night at Ericpantses. Stayed up late writing in journal and letting bad movies on scifi channel seep slowly into my subconscious. I'm sure I'll pay for that in my dreams somewhere down the line. I don't believe that I actually used to seek out these movies and rent them. My tolerance for schlock has gone WAY down over the years. As a result, I still haven't gone to see Spiderman, even though people have nothing but good things to say about it. I know it'll be good for what it is, but what it is is almost certainly completely vapid eye-candy, and I just don't think I can deal with that right now. On the other hand, and completely contradictory to my previous statement, I'm actually starting to not dread the coming of Episode 2 against all my better judgement. I won't see it on opening day mind you, or probably even opening week. Lucas lost opening day privileges after Phantom Menace, but I still can't help hoping it will be good, despite having absolutely no basis for this. Hope is silly like that.
Anyhow, woke up the next day because people were moving about. Star and Eric sure are perky in the morning. It's really quite charming. I think I got offered breakfast at least 6 times. Never quite got the hang of breakfast personally (mainly because skipping breakfast meant that I got to sleep in a good extra half an hour), but I eventually caved and had a donut. Played video games with Eric for a while. It's clear that I've lost my 8-bit touch, as he pretty much completely housed me. I don't know why I just used the term housed. I was never really fond of that piece of slang back when it was in vogue, but that's what my fingers decided to type there. Also, Life Force is a damn hard game. Even with the infamous konami code (up-up-down-down-left-right-left-right-b-a-start), we still needed to use a continue to beat the game. Sad. They just don't make games like they used to. Anyway, Eric then went on to beat me silly at Marble Madness and some surfing/skating game. Then I left the house in tears. Well, actually I just left the house because I had a BBQ to get to, but this sounds more dramatic.
Had fun at Noah and Veevi's cinco de mayo BBQ. Saw some people I don't see out very much, including Bezoar who I don't think I've really interacted with much since Burning Man two years back, and Phone, who, being an Aussie, doesn't come around much. And of course most of the usual suspects from that social circle, who I don't feel like listing right now. Played with Eva some. Heather insists that Eva likes me, and while she does seem slightly partial to me, it's not nearly as obvious as when most other small people like me, but then again I haven't been around since day one like I was with Zane. Well, I was kind of, but then I detached from that group. I think she's mainly just fascinated because I keep toys in my pockets. She ran around merrily with Uzbekistanley and Hitmonlee for a while, then we played the spin around and fall down game. If I were to believe in a paradisical afterlife, I think it would probably involve having the brain of a two year old and a big box to play in. Certainly beats just shining your halo for eternity.
BBQ split up and Numadan and I went to go grab mexican food, it being cinco de mayo and all. Went to a place in Alameda that was really quite decent, despite the waitress confusing chicken enchilladas for cheese on the first go-around. Then we wandered down the street to watch Sleeping play. I like Sleeping. They're very good background music. This is all above and beyond liking the members of Sleeping, who are neat people. Hung around and talked to all of my friends who were there, which was mainly about half of the BBQ crowd plus Mike and Maggie. A happy belated birthday to Maggie, who's been 26 more than 2 days at this point. Read some free papers. Dissapointed by the quality of personals ads. Very dull. Have to remember to get around to reading the article about Shulgin and 2-ct-7 that was in the east bay express last week. It's stuffed into one of my bags, but I'm in the middle of Flatterland, so it's somewhere down in my reading material queue. Eventually headed out with Dan down to Southbay for crashing.
Added another sign to my rapidly growing mental collection. Had a picture of a cartoony 50sesque policeman writing out a ticket with the words "Speeding tickets available ahead". I'm having trouble believing that it was real, as the sort of people in positions to make and position real signs rarely have that much of a sense of humor. Got back to Dan's house and played some video games before crashing out.
Woke up today and puttered around some on irc. Mainly just played dance dance revolution though. I can play some songs on double mode now, which basically means you need to wander back and forth between two separate pads. It's very, very hard. But the next dance dance revolution party Dan has, I'm going to be set! Dan came home and mucked about some with his new satellite dish while I read more Flatterland, then Moof and Phone showed up and we all went out to dinner at the yummy mexican place down here. Dinner conversation veered around string and m-brane theory, general social group up-catching, and the atrocity of freeways in Australia. Very well rounded dinner conversation. Then we came back to Dan's house and played with the new competitive morale device I received as part of Josh-aid. I came in second. Phone emerged victorious. Fun game. I am liking it lots. And it scales well from two player to four player, which is fairly rare. Next I'll need to try it with eight! Anyway, Dan crashed out, moof and phone wandered off downstairs, and now I'm here updating journal with blither.
And now I'm gone, off to read more. Bye-bye!
